DONNA GENELLE TOLLEY

Franklin, WV — Donna Genelle Tolley, 72, of Franklin, formerly of Covington, VA, died Wednesday 26 October 2005 at her residence.

She was born in Seminole, OK, the daughter of the late Randolph and Charlotte Wilhelmenia Palstring Shoemaker. She was married to Dr. Charles H. Tolley, who died 13 November 2002.

She was a member and organist at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Blue Grass, VA.

She graduated from Murray State University with a master’s degree in music and English.

She enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking, gardening, knitting, and serving as an organist at church and had a profound love for her grandchildren.

Ms. Tolley was a professor at Murray State University, Murray, KY; Vincennes University, Vincennes, IN; Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, WV; Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Clifton Forge, VA; Cape Fear Tech, Wilmington, NC; and Salem Teikyo University, Salem, VA.

Ms. Tolley is survived by two daughters, Leslie Wynn and husband Randy Bowers of Franklin, and Karen N. and husband John Gillespie of Covington, VA, three sons, William “Bill” and wife Lori Tolley, Raymond Howard and wife Susan Tolley, all of Covington, VA, and Karl Bryan Tolley of Baghdad, Iraq; eight grandchildren, Zachary Bowers, Lindsay Bowers, Jacob Tolley, Joseph Tolley, Josh Tolley, Sara Tolley, Jared Gillespie, and Bryan Gillespie.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, an infant and Joseph Tolley; one graddaughter, Afton Carlyle Gillespie; four brothers and one sister.

As per Ms. Tolley’s wishes and love of education, her body has been donated to the West Virginia School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice.
