The Virginia Commission for the Arts is the state agency that supports the arts in Virginia through funding from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Commission distributes grant awards to artists, arts and other not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions, educators and local governments, and provides technical assistance in arts management.

  The Pocahontas County Opera House hosts a variety of musical and theatrical events each year. The recently restored building is located at 818 Third Avenue in Marlinton, WV.



The Highland Historical Society is working to preserve Highland history in many ways, including restoring the Mansion House in McDowell for use as a museum.




The Hampshire County Arts Council is in Romney, WV. They have an extensive events calendar for a wide range of arts, including monthly exhibits in the public library.



  Highland Arts Unlimited in Keyser, WV, focuses primarily on music and the performing arts. Concerts and performances are held at Potomac State College in Keyser. There is a schedule of events posted on their web site.

  The Highland Center is a community building located in the former Highland County High School in Monterey. It sponsors meetings and activities of community interest and provides incubator space for new businesses as well as office space for the Arts Council.


  Situated in the Appalachian Mountains in Bath County, Virginia, Garth Newel Music Center is an exquisite year-round sanctuary for the appreciation of classical music. They sponsor chamber music concerts and workshops and other special events.

Located in Harrisonburg, VA, the Shenandoah Council of the Arts operates the OASIS Gallery and sponsors arts events of various types.

Located in Elkins, WV, the Augusta Heritage Center sponsors a wide array of cultural events, especially music. They have five weeks of workshops in the summer and other events from spring to fall, including Spring Dulcimer Week and the Fiddlers’ Reunion.
 

Located in Lewisburg, WV, the Greenbrier Valley Theatre sponsors professional, live theater productions. Something is on stage almost all year.

Also located in Lewisburg, WV, Carnegie Hall West Virginia sponsors performances, exhibits, classes and workshops and much more.
