Lisa Jacenich is a member of the Arts Council and art teacher in the Highland County School. The drawings represented in this show are the result of a class taught by Paul Ryan at Mary Baldwin College [Basic Drawing, Art 111, fall 2003]. Each drawing is a study of the various concepts taught in this class. Unlike most Arts Council exhibits, this was a one-day show in the school art room rather than at the library. I wish to thank the School Board, the Superintendent, Principal and Vice-Principal, the Arts Council, and the citizens of Highland County whose generosity in supporting the arts made it possible for me to attend this course.
This course allowed me to work in a studio environment and learn from other students and a well-respected artist/instructor. We covered realism to abstract forms of drawing and I came to the conclusion that in order to draw realistically one must think abstractly. I also gained current perspective of the requirements of the college art student so I can better assist the aspiring artists in my classes.
I appreciate the oportunity to grow as an artist and to be able to share the experiences with my students and the community. A special thank you to my husband Jim for all his help, love and support.
